Rabbi Simon Huberband was born in Checiny, near Kielce. A self-taught historian, he was
the chairman for religious affairs of the Jewish Self-Help Committee in the Ghetto. He then became a member of the Rabbinate and of Oneg Shabbat. Both he and his wife were taken to the Umschlagplatz and deported to Treblinka on 18 August 1942.
